Optical Zoom vs. Digital Zoom For PTZ Cameras Abroad
What is optical zoom? Optical zoom refers to the mechanical ability for a ptz camera to zoom out to distances over 150 feet. This unquie ability is supported by a special refractionary lens and a comibnation of light. The ability to focus light at different angles delivers focus and zoom capabilities. As a result, zooming at long distances is avaliable. This is a great tool for a variety of applications. Most ptz cameras have 10X, 18X, 27X, 32X and 40X+ optical zoom capabilities. The difference between optical and digitial zoom is that digital refers to a "software" ability to blow up an image. Software is embedded into the chipset into all ptz cameras and they get a 10X zoom too. Software works with the digitizing of photon light particles and renders an artifical intellegence view. The camera works hard to try and fix distortion and clean up the video feed at real-time viewing and recording. However, at maximuim zoom, a digital zoom can be very grainy and fuzzy. Sometimes the image is not clear at all. The good news is, you get the extra boost when you needed to see faint or distant objects or people.
